A middle-aged man in Neihu District of Taipei was shot to death by the police early yesterday morning when trying to attack the police with a large fruit knife, according to police sources.The victim, 39 and surnamed Lin, died after being shot five times by an officer, identified as Chu Shi-kai, while threatening Chu and his colleague Wu Chun-de. Lin's neighbors called the police to deal with Lin, said to be plagued by serious emotional instability.
