For those interested in China's long history and splendid culture, Henan province is a place that cannot be missed.

With the Yellow River running through it, the 167,000-square-kilometer province in central China has long been considered one of the main places where Chinese civilization first took root.

Henan is home to four of the eight major capitals of ancient China - Luoyang, Anyang, Kaifeng and Zhengzhou. From these cities, more than 200 emperors of 20 dynasties issued decrees.

At 5 pm, it arrived in flower-dotted, subtropical Guangzhou, where the temperature was 20 C higher than in Beijing when the trip began.

Zhu, 61, from a village in Yuanyang county, Henan province, went to the provincial capital, Zhengzhou, to seek a job after harvesting the crops in his hometown three months ago.

Zhu didn't know where the city's job market was and had to stand along the road with a board stating: "Seeking short-term jobs".

Bullet trains cut travel time between the two cities to less than two hours

A new high-speed railway, which connects the capital cities of Henan and Hubei provinces in Central China, was put into service on Friday, creating a new north-south corridor in the national high-speed rail grid. 

The first pair of bullet trains started to run on the Zhengzhou-Wuhan line at 9 am on Friday. 

The new line decreases the travel time between the two cities to two hours, down from four and a half hours.

The Ministry of Railways has found quality defects on 12 rail lines that may endanger railroad safety, according to a document recently obtained by the media. 

Seven of the 12 lines have been put into service, including high-speed passenger railways between Wuhan and Guangzhou and between Zhengzhou and Xi'an, according to the document.

While some children are playing at a park near Fangzhuang area of Fengtai district in Beijing, Wang Jinghan's fingers are fiddling vigorously on her violin. 

At 11 years old, she is one of the brightest stars at the Middle School attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, located just opposite the park. The school has been churning out virtuosos in recent years.
